Delivering Supplies to the Puerto Ocopa Orphanage

Daily Itinerary

Day 1
Wednesday, October 31
Travel to Lima, Peru...night flight

Our hotels are modern with comfortable rooms     We begin our tour with a long travel day from the United States or other parts of the world. You need to arrive in Lima on Wednesday night or early Thursday morning before 2:00 AM. If you cannot arrive Wednesday night you must plan to arrive in Lima Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
 
Most connections to Lima, Peru go through Miami, Atlanta, Fort Worth or Los Angeles. These flights to Lima will depart in the late afternoon and arrive in Lima between 10:00 PM and Midnight. We will meet you at the Lima Airport and store our bicycle boxes at the Airport Luggage Security Area. Then we will take you to our modern Hotel about a 30 minute taxi drive away. After a long travel day we will be ready for a good night's rest.

Day 2
Thursday, November 1

A three level house has better airflow for sleeping     Lima City Tour by bus in the morning for new arriving people. Visit the cathedrals and catacombs of historic Lima. Go shopping in Lima and buy clothing for the orphanage. Sleep in Lima Hotel near the the Mira Flores district.

Day 3
Friday, November 2

The scenic view at 16,000 feet     Group load supplies and drives eight hours from Lima to Tarma over the 16,000 foot high Ticlio Pass in the Andes Mountains. Lunch will be in San Meteo at a roadside restaurant at 10,000 feet. We will stop and see several mining regions along the way. We sleep in Tarma at 10,000 feet.

Day 4
Saturday, November 3

Lon inspects a local squash in the village market     The route drops into the jungle as we drive seven hours to Satipo. In the afternoon we will buy more supplies and bulk food for the orphanage.

Day 5
Sunday, November 4

The Peruvian children are friendly and eager to be photographed     Pack the truck with food. Drive four hours on the mud road into the jungle to the orphanage. Deliver the supplies. Sleep in the church priest cabins.

Day 6
Monday, November 5

A local bike club in the jungle had several strong riders     Breakfast at the the orphanage. River boat tour in the afternoon. Drive back four hours to Satipo before dark.

Day 7
Tuesday, November 6

Commercially grown flower fields entering Tarma     Drive back up the mountain to Tarma. Maybe go to the caves if we have time. Tour the flower markets of Tarma. Sleep in Tarma hotel.

Day 8
Wednesday, November 7

A scenic overlook at 15,000 feet     Drive back over Ticlio Pass to Lima...sleep in Lima.

Day 9
Thursday, November 8


Most of the meals are excellent.  Lon is trying something different.     Shopping day on your own in Lima...depart to United States in the night.

Day 10
Friday, November 9

     Flights arrive in the United States.
