Weather:
Cold in the morning - 50 degrees with
lots of fog.
Partly sunny most of the day but it stayed
cool - high reached about 70.
10 mph headwinds, with occasional crosswinds
and a rare but oh so sweet tail wind.
|
Points of Interest:
We rode past several Amish Farms early
in the day.
Tim's Ford Dam - a part of the Tennessee
Valley Authority system.
|
Highlights:
Slow, small dogs.
Smooth, winding roads with steep climbs.
The countryside is typified by a wide
landscape with red barn (sometimes falling apart), cow pastures,
a horse or two and random roosters roaming around. There is usually
a farmer out working the land with some large machinery.
The truck drivers continue to give the
"hello" sign by raising their index finger.
Peter (the Swede) won the race to the
"Petersburg" city limit sign but Howie gave him a real
challenge. Said Howie, "I wanted him to earn it".

People We Rode With:
Bruce and Brian rode together the entire
day. We took it slow and enjoyed the scenery.
|
Comments/Quotes:
After 20 days of riding our legs are still
stiff and we still get the "burn" when climbing hills
or accelerating.
Here are some answers to common questions
we get by email:
1. What does "SAG" stand for
?
- SAG is short for "Support and Gear"
and can be used to describe a stop for food (e.g., The first
SAG stop of the day is at mile 25.), a vehicle (e.g., My stuff
is in the SAG truck/van) or it can be used as a verb to describe
when a rider stops riding and takes the SAG vehicle to the hotel
(e.g., I blew out my knee and had to SAG it in).
2. What do we eat for breakfast in the
parking lot and how do we keep bugs out of the food?
- Breakfast is great - we have hot oatmeal,
cold cereals, bagels/muffins, coffee cake, fruit. On some days
we are rewarded with eggs, French toast. The bugs are still sleeping
when we eat!
