Date: 9/28/98
Fr: Ruidoso, NM
To: Roswell, NM
Total Miles: 101
Feet Climbed: 3,000
Weather:
The morning was cool and clear about 58 degree's.
A couple of cold air pockets surprised us as we descended from Ruidoso.
Afternoon patchy clouds heating up to the low 90's.
Most of the ride was into a mild head wind (5 - 10 mph).
Points of Interest:
None - there isn't much going on in central New Mexico - no water, no buildings, no people. Crossing New Mexico in a covered wagon must have been one crazy trip!
Black Angus cattle.
Boy Scout Mtn.
Highlights:
UFO museum and plenty of souvenir shops.
Bruce had two more flats - this brings the total to seven. Bruce is on pace to break the PAC Tour record of 17 on a transcontinental ride!!!!!

People We Rode With:
Brian rode solo (again!).
Bruce rode with a slow leak in his front tire for the first 25 miles - Howie and Anurang provided camaraderie. The rest of the day was a mad chase to catch up with everyone else.
Saddle Time: Brian - 4 hrs 58 min. Bruce 5 hrs 37 min.

Comments/Quotes:
Nice hotel pool.
Many of the riders are starting to feel burned out and longing for a day of rest.
On the positive side, most everyone is saying their butts are feeling better (that doesn't mean good!).
We are planning to bring in other guest correspondents to cover the trip - let us know how this works - we want to keep our ratings up.
We accidentally cleared the #hits tally - we will try to restore the actual number over the next few days. We estimate the number to be over 1200.
